Yo-ho, Yo HO:

A Pirate’s Life for Me

Seagulls screeched and wheeled
High above our
Tousled, wind-worn heads

As we bobbed and swayed on deck
With faces wet from a salty breeze
Wafting thorough the open window

Ours was a motley crew:
Flesh, fur, and feather combined
In pursuit of the rarest treasure

We sailed and conquered
Under our banner of terrifying charm
(Taped on the wall above our ship)

We were romantic villains-
The ones who dared to fall off
The edge of the map

We took the oath of parley with the sea
Our sweat and tears
Became our dreams and fears

We sailed- drifting like smoke
Over the desert called ocean
Living only for the sound of “land ahoy”

One day we met our fate
On monstrous rocks
Seen through a paper towel roll

Their voices floated over the sea
And into our cautiously – longing ears
Tempting two from our ranks overboard-

Off the bed, and down the stairs
To golden, chocolate chip
Treasure.
